Invitation To Christ

#1 - Get an Understanding

It’s essential to know that the bible says in Romans 3:23, “For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.” Think about what that means. There is not one person on the face of the earth that is without sin. The Bible says “all” (emphasis added). That includes you and me. It also states that “there is no one who does good, not even one.” (Romans 3:12)

Secondly, there is a consequence of our sin. Romans 6:23 says, “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. You can do nothing to escape death outside of accepting Jesus into your heart. Not your good works, not your acts of kindness, and certainly not working for the church. Did you notice in this verse sin has no “s” at the end? This means committing one sin can result in eternal death. However, the good news is you need only to accept the free gift God has given through Jesus Christ and be in a relationship with him, and not involved in a religion.

Lastly, you have to be born again. John 3:3 says, “Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth unless you are born again, you cannot see the Kingdom of God.”

#2 - Jesus Who?

His Life – We were doomed to death once sin entered the world. However, it was God’s desire that our relationship with him in the garden be restored, so he had to do something, and baby, let me tell you, it was big. John 3:16-17 is God’s way of presenting us with the best gift we will ever receive. It says, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.” Jesus came here to save us and to give his life as an example of what God intended life to be life for us through him. During Jesus’s 33 years on earth, he shared the good news with the poor, bound up the broken-hearted, proclaimed freedom to those who were captives, and released prisoners from darkness. Jesus comforted those who mourned and provided for those who were grieving (Isaiah 61:1-2). He taught, healed, set free, and delivered anyone willing to believe his words. John 14:6 say, “Jesus answered, I am the way the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

  • His Death – Sin separated us from God. Jesus accepted his fate with his death on the cross. He did it willingly because it was the only way we would ever be close to God again. “Christ suffered for our sins once for all time. He never sinned, but he died for sinners to bring you safely home to God. He suffered physical death, but he was raised to life in the Spirit” (1 Peter 3:18). And because Jesus died for us, we truly get to see what love is. “God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Rom. 5:8). Jesus paid a high price for your and my life; HIS.

  • His Resurrection- Death is not the end of the story of Jesus. Quite honestly, from where I’m sitting, it’s the beginning. He defeated Satan and the grip hell had on us when he died. Without a doubt, he conquered death. In other words, he rose from the dead just as he said, “I am the living one. I died, but look—I am alive forever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and the grave” (Revelations 1:18).

  • His Ascension – Jesus fulfilled God’s plan to redeem or save us. He is no longer dead, “But from now on the Son of Man will be seated in the place of power at God’s right hand” (Luke 22:69), and is now our biggest advocate. The Bible says, “Therefore he is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them” (Hebrews 7:25).

Whew! So now what?

#3 - Accept God’s Gift in the Person of Jesus Christ

Now you know what sin is and its consequences. You know a little about who Jesus is, his life, death, burial, resurrection, and ascension. Now you have this moment to take a step of faith toward Christ. God offers Jesus to all of us as a gift. He will never force himself on you so it has to be your decision.

Understanding how sin separates us from God should move you to be sorry or be filled with remorse to the point that you no longer want to be controlled by sin. This requires an active turning from living for yourself and instead living for Christ. 2 Corinthians 5:15 says, “He died for everyone so that those who receive his new life will no longer live for themselves. Instead, they will live for Christ, who died and was raised for them. It’s an act of surrender.

Believing that you can be forgiven and receive salvation no matter what you have done is so important. According to the bible, there are 2 things you must do to be saved. Romans 10:9-11 says, “If you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess your faith and are saved. Confess and believe. That’s it, that’s all!

So, what are you waiting for? Are you ready to invite Jesus into your life and into your heart as your Savior and have an intimate relationship with him? Then pray this simple prayer below.

As a matter of fact, I want to pray the prayer with you.

Prayer of Salvation

God, thank you for loving me so much that you sent your Son Jesus to die for me so that I can be back in the right relationship with you. I am so sorry for the many sins I have committed; I turn from them now and ask you to forgive me. Jesus, I believe you died for me, were buried, and rose again from the dead. You defeated the enemy for my sake, so I could live with you forever. Now you are sitting at the right hand of the Father. I don’t know quite how to do this Christian thing, but I open my heart to you by faith and I invite you into my life today.

Holy Spirit, be with me every day. Change me and renew me into the image of Jesus.

In Jesus's name, I pray and receive salvation. Amen!
