Will Save For Free
Scripture - Ephesians 2:8-9 (NLT)
“God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God.”
We often see homeless people standing on corners with a sign that says, “will work for food” out of desperation to fill a longing for nourishment. It ain’t no secret that food is an essential and critical resource we need to sustain life. Without it, we will eventually starve to death.
But, what about spiritual life? What do we need to keep from starving to “eternal” death? Jesus is the answer to spiritual starvation. You see, without Jesus in our lives, we would die a permanent death. But, with Him, we can live forever and we don’t have to work for it. Jesus has demonstrated he “will save for free”.
Jesus is the spiritual nutrient we need to live out this life. As a matter of fact, he said, “I am the bread of Life” (John 6:32-35) and when they were eating he said, “This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me” (Matt 26:26). Why did he refer to eating? God knew we’d be able to relate to the natural need for food and eating. Food is the fuel to stay alive in the natural. Food fuels our bodies to remain active, well, and busy.
Well, it’s the same with Jesus in the spiritual sense. When we accept him as Savior, he gives us a free ticket to an eternal banquet that will never run out of spiritual nutrients. Oh, and the access never expires. We can keep going back again and again for FREE refills.
As that is the case, why do we feel we have to work for this free gift of life? Paul admonishes us in Ephesians 2:8-9; “For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast. I hope this is enough to convince you that it is indeed free.
So, put down your sign and get some rest from all your work. Know that God is pleased with you already, just as you are. All He wants from us is to be authentic and deeply intimate with him. So, accept Him. That’s it, that’s all. Receive what Jesus has given you for free!
And remember, everything you need is ATHOH!
